Claims

Claims servicing is the shop window front for any insurer, no matter what type of insurance is involved. The insurer stands or falls by whatever happens with their handling of claims and therefore it is very important that this is of the highest quality, a goal we at Five Oceans will always strive to achieve.

It is therefore important that the Member must ensure that his premium payments are up-to-date as any delay could be detrimental to the handling of the claim by the Club. Also important is for the Member to endeavour to meet as quickly as possible, any deficiencies highlighted by the Club through its surveys because failure to have these rectified could allow the Club to validly reject support for a claim.

Our managing model for the Club is based on the architecture that the Club will not necessarily simply walk away from providing any support whatsoever but such support could only be given on the basis of the Member meeting all their Membership's financial obligations in accordance to Club's Rules of Association and this being guaranteed.​

Naturally a Member must promptly make the Club’s claims department aware as soon as notice is available that there is the possibility of a claim arising. If the Member is unable to initially reach the Club’s claims department, then the Member should promptly advise the Club’s local correspondent at the port of arrival for the ship.​

​

Thereafter the local correspondent in conjunction with the Club will take charge of the claim in an endeavour to minimise the level of the claim. Often the active involvement of the Club in the early stages of a claim can help us to rapidly get to the bottom of the issues behind the claim with the intent of keeping everything firmly under control.​

As will be apparent, many of the claims behind P&I are of a long tail nature but generally speaking, the sooner they can be resolved, the better it is for the Member.
